Found in Avignon and dating to the 19th century, it carries a central shield of three fleur-de-lis flanked by carved laurel, its corners locked in deep dovetails and the whole raised on a molded base and round bun feet. Three fleur-de-lis on a shield are the old royal arms of France, borne by her kings from 1376 until 1804 and long said to stand for the Holy Trinity, so this chest wears a piece of the monarchy across its front.
