Found in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, this small terracotta pot dates to the 20th century, a footed round shape with a moulded band around the body, once painted white and now worn back to the clay in wide patches. Terracotta breathes in a way glazed pots do not, letting water and air move through the walls, which is why gardeners have reached for it for centuries.
