Found in Béziers, this painted buffet comes from the Auvergne and dates to the 19th century, four arched and paneled doors across the front, the whole thing wearing an old grey-blue paint worn back to bare wood along the edges. The Auvergne is deep rural France, its furniture made from solid local wood and painted rather than polished, the color kept up over the years with whatever was to hand.
