This one is a proper piece of French kitchen history. Found in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon and dating to the 19th century, this copper vessel is known in France as a chocolatière tripode - a tripod chocolate pot used to heat and prepare drinking chocolate directly over embers or coals. The three iron legs allowed it to stand securely in the hearth, while the tall form and fitted lid kept the contents warm and controlled. The hammered surface shows the marks of its making, and the copper has darkened and softened with time in a way that only happens through years of heat and handling. Sylvie loves it displayed exactly as it is - a sculptural reminder of how much care once went into the simplest routines.
