Found in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, this three-tiered wire stand was hand-bent by a village wire-worker in the mid-20th century. Each tier is rimmed with a row of small hearts, the folk flourish that turned a working piece into a dressier one. The hearts were bent one at a time, and you can see the slight differences between them where the maker's hand moved. The wire has rusted softly to a dark warm patina, the way old French wirework always does. Sylvie places it on a kitchen island piled with summer peaches, almond croissants, and whatever someone brought back from the market that morning.
