These tall Italian maiolica jars, painted in cobalt blue on cream, once lined the shelves of a pharmacist's shop, each labeled with its remedy: Ticlio (linden, for calming nerves, fevers, and a restless sleep) and Edera (ivy, used to soothe coughs and ease the chest). Their decorations of birds, florals, and a small painted face at the base of each label remind us that medicine was as much theater as science. Surviving intact with their lidded tops, these jars are rare examples of 18th–19th century Italian apothecary craft, equal parts remedy and ornament. Sold separately, exactly as pictured.
