17th c. Louis III Cupboard
France, 17th Century
$3,295
Jaw dropped. A true rarity, and one of Sylvie’s most exciting finds this season. This 17th-century Louis XIII-style cupboard, discovered in Barjols, is a remarkable example of early French furniture—defined by its geometric panels, solid oak construction, and a departure from Renaissance ornamentation in favor of bold, architectural simplicity. Pieces like this are incredibly difficult to source in such beautiful condition, especially with working hardware and the original key intact. The cupboard’s dual-door and drawer design speaks to its utilitarian roots, likely used to store everything from linens to serving ware in a well-appointed home. We were going to keep this one for ourselves...

A really stunning piece, perfectly functional—past woodworm holes, repairs, cracks, patina, and stains all add to its character. The keys are a little hard to turn, but work!
