This came out of Avignon and dates to the 18th century, a provincial oak dressing table built at a time when personal rituals happened quietly, often in the corner of a bedroom rather than in front of a grand vanity. The construction is straightforward but considered, with cabriole legs, paneled sides, and a series of small drawers fitted with simple brass pulls. The top opens in sections to reveal hidden compartments and a mirror that would have been lifted into place for use, then folded back down to return the surface to a clean, closed state. The oak has lightened over time, with areas of wear across the top and edges where hands returned to the same places each day. Sylvie sets it in a bedroom as it was intended, opened in the morning, then closed again, holding everything just out of sight.
