Hard To Find
These tall maiolica jars, painted in cobalt blue on cream, once lined the shelves of a pharmacist’s shop, each boldly labeled with its cure: Aloe for stomach and skin, Bucco (or buchu) leaves imported from South Africa for kidney and bladder ailments, and Agave, prized in Europe for its healing sap long before anyone thought to make tequila. Their decorations - birds, florals, even a cheeky little cherub - remind us that medicine was as much theater as science. Surviving intact with their lidded tops, these jars are rare survivors of 18th–19th century Italian craft, equal parts remedy and ornament. Sold separately, exactly as pictured.
