One-Of-A-Kind

A compact Louis Philippe wall mirror, soft-arched at the top with a double cavetto frame finished in ebonized paint and a narrow pale brown inner band that reads like a small piece of furniture rather than just glass. Originally made in mid-19th-century France to hang above mantels and dressers as a practical light-amplifier and finishing touch in modest bourgeois interiors, this example is built in solid wood with mitered joints; the ebonized finish shows honest surface wear and a small chip at the lower left, while the original silvered mirror plate bears period foxing, a few faint scratches and spots from oxidation. Sylvie loves to lean this on a narrow console so the thin gilt stripe reads like jewelry and the aged glass reframes whatever you toss in front of it.

Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
