Sourced in Béziers, its scale and worn surface tell the story of two antique tables brought together long ago, with the legs from one and the apron and top from another. The joinery includes later repairs and a scatter of newer pegs across the surface, which simply reflect its long life and the many hands that kept it in service. Originally built for communal meals inside a Spanish monastery, it is long, narrow, and wonderfully sturdy, easily seating ten to twelve people. Sylvie imagines it as the ultimate entertaining table with stacks of books and oversized pottery running its full length.
