Handled Alsace pot

France, 19th Century

Select Size

$125

These classic Alsace pots were once the workhorses of French kitchens, shaped with thick walls and stout handles so they could store everything from fermented cabbage to rendered fats and preserved meats. The salt-glazed stoneware and cobalt brushwork were hallmarks of the region, each pot a small record of the potter’s hand, which is why no two ever look quite the same. Ours follow that tradition and will vary from the photo since Sylvie gathered them one by one on her last trip, all with their own mix of brushstrokes, glaze tones, and age-worn marks. Sylvie likes them now for wooden spoons on a counter or a cluster of fresh herbs in the kitchen. Several sizes available.
