A desk that hides its secrets in plain sight. This late 19th century Provençal chestnut writing table was found in Avignon and features a carved front that hides the opening completely. Instead of a pull, the drawer opens from underneath, a small detail meant to keep secrets of its owner. The repeating arches are carved directly into the wood, not applied, and the turned legs rest on a simple H-stretcher worn smooth from years of use. Tables like this sat in everyday rooms, where letters were written at the end of the day and household accounts kept close at hand. Sylvie places it along a wall or beneath a painting, where it quietly reads as both a desk and a piece of architecture.
