Found in Avignon, this 19th-century faience plate was made in Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, the Provençal pottery village whose workshops became famous in the 1600s and supplied commissioned tablewares to aristocratic and royal households across France. The hand-painted floral spray and shaped rim are classic to the region, and you can see the brush move in the cobalt decoration. The back is signed “Lamuse,” tied to a family of faience decorators working in Provence during the 1800s. Plates were painted individually and signed by the painter or workshop head before glazing and firing, which is why the writing looks quick and informal. There is light wear to the glaze and small firing irregularities from the kiln, all consistent with age. Sylvie stacks these into a plate wall or rests one on a kitchen shelf where the blue picks up nearby linens and ceramics.

Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
