This early twentieth century French three tier fruit stand, found in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, is crafted from dark metal wire with scalloped rims that give each basket a rhythmic, almost crown like edge. Designed to keep fruit elevated and well aired in the kitchen, it would have stood proudly on a farmhouse table, separating ripening pears from sturdy apples and citrus below. The central rod anchors the three graduating bowls, while the openwork construction keeps the whole piece feeling light despite its height. Sylvie loves it piled high and left out on the counter, turning everyday produce into a small, edible still life.
