Honey-toned pine on the outside, and a quiet fleur-de-lis surprise within. This 19th-century cupboard has two upper drawers with raised diamond panels set above a pair of paneled doors framed with octagonal moldings. Inside, the drawers and shelves are lined in patterned paper that only reveals itself when opened. Cupboards like this lived in the center of the house, holding linens, dishes, or pantry goods within easy reach. It was opened and closed all day, part of the daily rhythm rather than a formal piece. Sylvie loves it in an entry or dining room, where you only notice the interior once you go looking - and then you’re glad you did.
