Found in Avignon but originally from Spain, this early 20th century table is made from solid elm. The top is a thick single plank set on turned legs, with a hand-forged iron stretcher running beneath for support. This construction comes out of earlier Spanish refectory tables, where iron stretchers were used to stabilize wide boards and keep them in use for generations. The surface shows knots, tonal shifts, and a slightly irregular edge from the original cut of the wood. The iron stretcher curves outward at each end, adding a bit of movement without taking over. Sylvie puts this in front of a sofa where everything gathers, books, a glass, whatever the day leaves behind.
