Found in Avignon, this 19th-century French side table was made in a country workshop somewhere in Provence, a small piece that lived a long working life in a stone farmhouse. The hand-forged iron pull and lock plate were made at a village forge, and the single drawer still slides on its original wooden runners. The legs are slightly splayed, the country detail that gave the table its footing on uneven stone floors. Sylvie places it in an entryway with a single lamp on top and the drawer holding keys, the mail, and her gardening gloves.
