We almost cried when we laid eyes on her. From the Biarritz area and dating to the 19th century, this French dish cupboard was uncovered in Avignon, a two-part piece built for the rhythm of a working kitchen where everything needed its place. Cupboards like this were used to store and display everyday ceramics - plates stacked within reach, the most-used pieces kept open on the rack above to dry or be grabbed quickly throughout the day. The construction is notably thick and sturdy, with wide boards and a weight that speaks to how seriously these were made. It’s been carefully restored, but the character remains - wear still visible along the edges and surface. Sylvie loves it with stacks of plates lining the upper rack, heavier serving pieces tucked below, and a small vase set a top to give it that certain je ne sais quoi.
