Found in Avignon and originally from a grand maison in Mouriès, this 19th-century French buffet was built in the Louis XV style of Provence, with a serpentine front, a scalloped apron, and the curving cabriole feet that mark every piece of country furniture made in the south. Two small drawers above the doors held the silver and the everyday linens, and the long iron strap hinges that run almost the full height of each door are original and were made by the village blacksmith who worked alongside the joiner. Sylvie places it in a dining room beneath a large oil painting leaned against the wall, with a pair of brass candlesticks at either end and a low bowl of lemons in between.
