Found in Avignon, this 20th century French breakfast table is the right size for two chairs, two cups, and the morning paper between them. The turned pedestal was hand-shaped from a single block of wood and sits on three curved feet that look like they're walking somewhere, which is part of the appeal. The wood was stripped at some point in its life and shows a soft honey color underneath, the kind of wood that catches the light from a window. Small round tables like this were made for the breakfast room or for a corner of the kitchen, where someone sat close to the window with a cup of something hot, the way people still do. Sylvie places it in a sun-filled corner with two chairs pulled up, a vase of whatever's blooming, and a fruit bowl that gets emptied by mid-morning.
