Square Wine Tasting Table

France, 20th Century

$795

Antique

One-Of-A-Kind

Rare

Found in Avignon, this 19th-century French wine tasting table was made for the cellars of the Rhône wine country, a small folding piece that came out at harvest and went back against the wall the rest of the year. The square top tilts up on a hinge so the table folds flat for storage. The wine was poured here in glasses, drawn straight from the barrel for the buyers who came to inspect the vintage and decide what to ship to Paris. The pine has darkened from years of being splashed with wine, set with food, and dragged across stone cellar floors. Sylvie places it next to a window with a clay pitcher of whatever's in season and the late afternoon light coming through.

Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
