From Montpellier and dating to the 1940s, this sculptor’s pedestal was made for studio use, built to elevate works in progress to eye level while remaining steady and unobtrusive. The form is simple but deliberate - solid wood construction with four tapered legs set at an angle for stability, joined by a cross stretcher that reinforces the structure without adding weight. Sylvie uses it exactly this way, giving a small object or sculpture its own moment, lifted just enough to be seen properly.
