One-Of-A-Kind

Every farmhouse kitchen needed somewhere to keep the plates and the everyday things, and a piece like this held all of it against one wall. Found in Béziers, this Spanish armario dates to the 19th century, open shelves up top for the dishes over a low cupboard closed behind two doors with a hand-forged iron latch. It was built by a village carpenter from plain boards, the shelves left open so the good plates stood on display while the closed base kept the rest out of sight. Sylvie lines the shelves with cream plates and leaves the doors below for what she would rather not look at, the whole thing earning its keep in a kitchen or an entry.

Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
