The moment we laid eyes on this collection, we knew it was something extraordinary. These marble mortars, used for generations in traditional food preparation, have a rich history of grinding spices and herbs in rural Spanish kitchens. Each piece was discovered in various masias scattered across the Catalonian countryside, with origins dating from 1740 to 1870. Their wear and patina tell tales of their past lives, making them truly unique. These mortars are available in very limited quantities—once they’re gone, they’re gone. Steeped in traditional Spanish history, they’re now ready to begin their next chapter with you.

Catalonia, a region rich in history and culture, has long been known for its distinct identity within Spain. From its medieval origins as a powerful principality to its modern-day status as an autonomous community, Catalonia has preserved its unique traditions and language.

A key feature of the Catalonian countryside is the Masia, traditional farmhouses dating back centuries, often serving as the heart of agricultural life. These stone-built structures, with their thick walls and rustic charm, were designed to be self-sufficient, housing families, livestock, and crops under one roof.

This particular item was unearthed in a 1750 Masia, a place steeped in history, where generations have passed down stories and traditions, making it a true artifact of Catalonia’s enduring heritage.
