Tall Workers Stool

France, 20th Century

$495

Antique One-Of-A-Kind Rare

Made as a tall stool for a carpenter's bench, this one wears its whole working life on its seat, marked and worn where tools were set down and a craftsman sat through long days. Its three legs splay wide for a steady perch and meet low at a triangular stretcher pegged and wedged by hand. Early 20th century and built to take a beating, a stool like this outlasted the work it was made for, which is why it stands so easily now as a pedestal. Sylvie would top it with a bust, a stack of books, or a vase of something tall, and let the wear do the talking.
