  • Notes From Sylvie:

My dear this piece is un-glazed terracotta and has chips and patina from years of use.

Walking through the cellar of this old masia, we stumped upon these beautiful Cantaros vessels. Dating back to 1800, these vessels are made from terracotta and were used to store water, while also keeping it cool in the summer months. With hues of terracotta and reds, we can safely say, we are most likely never going to find these again.

Catalonia, a region rich in history and culture, has long been known for its distinct identity within Spain. From its medieval origins as a powerful principality to its modern-day status as an autonomous community, Catalonia has preserved its unique traditions and language.

A key feature of the Catalonian countryside is the Masia, traditional farmhouses dating back centuries, often serving as the heart of agricultural life. These stone-built structures, with their thick walls and rustic charm, were designed to be self-sufficient, housing families, livestock, and crops under one roof.

This particular item was unearthed in a 1750 Masia, a place steeped in history, where generations have passed down stories and traditions, making it a true artifact of Catalonia’s enduring heritage.
