Found outside Lyon, this footed glass dish came from a dealer we have known for years, out of a collection his father spent decades building. It is a small dish in pressed clear glass, a shallow scalloped bowl raised on a short patterned stem and round foot. A dish like this is a compote, made to lift fruit or sweets up off the table and present them, the raised foot turning a handful of cherries into something worth looking at. Sylvie fills it with cherries and sets it out on the table, the fruit piled up over the scalloped edge.
