French Bedside Table
France, 19th Century
$795
A table de chevet took its name from the chevet, the head of the bed, for it lived its whole life within arm’s reach of a sleeper. This one stands open at the front beneath a scalloped gallery, lifted high on long, curved cabriole legs and worn to a warm brown. Legs like these place it in provincial France, where even a plain bedside necessity was given a little grace. Sylvie would set it beside a bed for a book and a glass of water, close at hand in the dark.

Notes from Sylvie:
Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The sturdy table has a dark wood finish with slight discoloration, chips, and scuffs along the top. The joints are visible at the back corners.
