French Farm Bench

France, 20th Century

$695

Vintage One-Of-A-Kind Styling Essential

Worn smooth by everyone who ever sat down to eat at it. Found in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, this long low bench sets a single wide plank on two splayed board legs cut with a handhold, all worn to a soft, warm brown. In a farmhouse there were never enough chairs, so a bench like this ran the length of the table, seating the whole family shoulder to shoulder and sliding out of the way when the meal was done. Sylvie runs it down one side of the dining table, or stands it against a wall where a long, low seat is wanted.

Notes from Sylvie:

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including scratches, scuffs, small holes, and paint splatter, particularly around the lower legs. Some nail heads show light rust patina. The piece is sturdy and in good condition.
