Vintage Glass Cloche - III

Outside Lyon there is a dealer we have known for years, and the loveliest things always come from the same place, his father’s collection, built up over a lifetime of looking. This glass cloche came from that collection, a swirled dome of spiralling flutes that catch and bend the light, finished with a little ribbed knob to lift it by. It has the weight and the shine of old glass, turning a covered plate into something worth setting on the table. Sylvie drops it over a cake or a wedge of cheese, or a few quiet things that deserve keeping.
