Antique Marble Statement Piece

A shop counter has two faces, the beautiful one for the customer and the working one for whoever stood behind it all day. Found in Lille and dating to the early 20th century, it shows panelled cupboard doors on one side and, on the other, two drawers with cup pulls above open shelves, all under a marble top. The French call it a comptoir, the counter a shopkeeper worked behind, the marble kept cool and easy to wipe for weighing out cheese or wrapping up the day's orders. Sylvie would make it a kitchen island, the marble for pastry and the shelves for cookbooks, beautiful from every side of the room.

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The piece has a wood finish with scuffs, surface wear, and a few small paint splatters from its long history. The extremely heavy marble top rests freely on the base and stays securely in place. Two upper drawers open comfortably, with raw wood interiors and handles showing some rust patina.
