Originally from a private collection in Provence, Simon welcomed Sylvie into his bastide to take her pick. These champagne coupes follow the classic French shape that first appeared in the 18th century, when glassmakers believed a wide, shallow bowl made bubbly livelier and more festive. Legend claims the form was modeled after the breast of a French aristocrat, a tale that survived simply because it delighted people. Originally used for sparkling wine at salons and lively gatherings, Sylvie likes them now in sets of two or four for celebratory evenings at home when a cold bottle and good company are all you need.
