Found in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, this 19th-century Lorraine chair is one of Sylvie's favorites, the kind of piece she would have kept for herself if she had any room left at home. The arched back is the Lorraine signature, made in the northeastern region of France where the joiners worked in a tradition that was half French and half German. Sylvie places it in a corner of a bedroom with a folded sweater on the seat and the day's first light coming through the window.
