Antique Artwork One-Of-A-Kind

Long before wallpaper, a grand room might be hung with painted panels of cloth, each one worked by hand like a painting made to cover a whole wall. Found inside the old walls of Avignon in a grand estate and dating to the 19th century, this is a tall panel painted with a fisherman at the water's edge inside a decorative border. Painted by hand rather than woven, it has a softness a tapestry never had, the whole scene faded now to quiet browns over more than a century, and panels like this rarely survive at all, which makes one this size genuinely rare. Sylvie leans it against a wall rather than hanging it, tall and quiet in a corner, the fisherman keeping to himself the way he has for a hundred years.

Dear collector, The textile shows sun fading, water mark staining and a few areas of damage, all consistent with its age and years of display. The wood framing along the sides is exposed and may show light scratches, small holes, and signs of past repairs.
