Antique One-Of-A-Kind Sylvie Favorite

Found in Le Perche and dating to the early 20th century, this French trunk lifts on a hinged plank top to a deep box within, raised off the floor on shaped cabriole legs and a scalloped apron. Most trunks sat flat on the ground, so one lifted up on legs like this was a step grander, a coffer dressed to stand in a good room rather than a back one. Sylvie sets it at the foot of a bed or along a wall, blankets and off-season things kept in the deep box and a lamp or a stack of books on the lid.
