French Pedestal Table

France, 20th Century

$395

Tall and narrow, a little table like this was made to hold one thing and show it off, a lamp, a plant, or a vase of flowers lifted to eye level. Found in Amiens and dating to the 20th century, it is a round top on a turned column, standing on a shaped tripod base with three small feet. The French call a tall stand like this a sellette, made not to sit down to but to hold something worth looking at, in a corner or beside a chair. Sylvie stands it in a corner with a fern spilling over the edge, or by an armchair for a lamp and a book.

Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
