French Tripod Stool

The three-legged stool was the workhorse of the French kitchen and barn, low and light and always underfoot when a seat was needed. Found in Bellême, in Le Perche, and dating to the 20th century, it is a round seat on three turned legs that taper to the floor. Three legs was the country answer to an uneven floor, sitting steady on flagstones or bare earth where a fourth would only rock. Sylvie uses it as a little side table by a chair - a spot for a book and her favorite tea cup.
