Vintage Set of 5 Kitchen Must Have

Every dry staple in a French kitchen had its own jar with its name on the front, and here is the full set of five, sugar and flour and coffee and tea and pepper. Found in Amiens, the five are graduated from the tall sugar down to the little pepper, each glazed white and stenciled with ochre flowers and small blue leaves, the labels lettered in blue. Sets like these came in when the grocer stopped weighing everything out loose and the staples moved home to the shelf, each with a jar of its own so nothing got mistaken for another. Sylvie lines them along an open shelf above the counter, tallest to smallest, close enough to reach mid-recipe.
