Antique Kitchen Must Have One-Of-A-Kind Rare

Before the stove, water was boiled over an open fire, and a copper kettle like this hung from a hook above the flames, its tall handle made for exactly that. Found in Amiens and dating to the 19th century, it is a round, hand-hammered copper pot with a gooseneck spout, a domed lid, and a high swinging handle that arched over the fire. Copper was the metal every kitchen wanted because it takes heat fast and evenly, and the best of it came from Villedieu-les-Poêles, the Normandy town that has beaten copper by hand for centuries. Sylvie keeps it out on the stove or the hearth, the copper catching the firelight the way it was always meant to.
