Vintage One-Of-A-Kind Exactly As Pictured

The same hands that wove baskets and chair seats in a French village could turn out a stool top like this, a round of woven wicker braided tight enough to sit on for years. Found in Amiens and dating to the 20th century, its woven seat stands on four slim rattan legs, bound low with an X-stretcher. It comes from the middle of the century, when French makers paired village basketwork with light rattan frames, and pieces from that moment have become quietly collectible since. Sylvie keeps it by a chair or pulls it up as an extra seat, light enough to move with one hand and pretty enough to leave out.

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The piece has a slight wobble consistent with its age. The rattan top has some areas of missing weaving, and a few of the securing ties at the base are no longer present.
