Vintage One-Of-A-Kind Hard To Find

The same hands that wove baskets and chair seats in a French village could turn out a stool top like this, a round of rattan braided tight enough to sit on for years. Found in Amiens and made in the 20th century, its woven seat sits on four slim wooden legs that splay out wide, a lighter, more modern shape than the old country stools. It comes from the middle of the century, when French makers paired village basketwork with these light, splayed legs, and pieces from that moment have become quietly collectible since. Sylvie stands it by the back door with a pair of garden boots tucked underneath and a folded hat on the seat.
