Someone set a ring of old hand-painted tiles right into the top of this table, little painted scenes in soft blues, greens, and ochres you only find when you look down into it. Found in Belgium and dating to the 20th century, it stands round and low on splayed tapered legs, its top inset with a scattering of faience tiles, each painted by hand with a little figure or a spray of flowers. Tiles like these were painted one at a time in the old Dutch and Flemish potteries, no two alike, and set into a tabletop they turn a plain round table into something you keep discovering. Sylvie sets it in front of a sofa, the tiles a quiet surprise under the coffee cups and the flowers.
Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
Notes from Sylvie:
Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The wood shows some light surface scuffs and is otherwise very clean, with ceramic tiles inset into the tabletop. The table is sturdy overall, though one leg has a small amount of looseness.
