Antique One-Of-A-Kind Rare

Around the turn of the century, chairmakers stripped away the fuss and let a chair be its bones, a curve of spindles and four splayed legs and little else. Made in Belgium and dating to the early 20th century, it has a curved back of slim spindles that runs into the arms, a solid wood seat, and legs that splay out to little pad feet. It belongs to the Arts and Crafts moment, when makers set out to prove that simple, honest wood could be as handsome as anything carved and gilded.Sylvie stands it alone against an empty wall, a decorative chair kept as much for its shape as for sitting, quietly holding a corner on its own.
