Below the grand rooms of a castle ran a kitchen that never stopped, and at the middle of it stood a long oak table like this. Found in Belgium and dating to the 19th century, it stretches out on turned legs braced by an H-stretcher near the floor, a thick oak top marked by long use over a single drawer. It came from a grand castle's kitchen, where a table this size fed the staff who kept the house running and carried the work of every meal. Sylvie sets it as a dining table with benches or ladder-back chairs, long enough to seat everyone with room to spare.
