Antique Velvet Stool

Belgium, 20th Century

$445

Antique Upholstery One-Of-A-Kind

Every good chair by the fire had a footstool to go with it, somewhere to put your feet up at the end of a long day. Found in Le Perche and dating to the early 20th century, it is a long, low stool upholstered in a soft green velvet, worked with a diamond weave and worn to a gentle fade, standing on four turned wooden legs. Velvet was the fabric of comfort, the plush that made a stool something you wanted to rest against rather than just use, and this one has softened exactly the way good velvet does over a century. Sylvie sets it at the foot of an armchair by the fire, close enough to swing your feet up onto without getting up.
