French Farm Table

France, 20th Century

$2,295

Antique One-Of-A-Kind Wood

On a working farm the kitchen table was never just for meals, it was where the day was planned, the accounts kept, the vegetables trimmed, and supper eaten at the end of it. Found in Chartres and dating to the 20th century, it came off a working farm, stretching long and low on square legs braced by an H-stretcher, a thick plank top marked by years of work with a drawer in the front and a second that pulls out from the end. The top is pegged and bolted rather than glued, the blunt, honest way a farm table was built to take a century of daily use. Sylvie sets it as a dining table with benches or chairs down both sides, long enough to seat everyone and take whatever a big meal brings.

Notes from Sylvie:

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The semi-matte wood finish shows some small chips and slight staining. The table is sturdy, and all drawers open comfortably.
