Antique Artwork Signed One-Of-A-Kind

The fruit here will never be eaten, held ripe in the dark for a hundred years and glistening still. It is an early 20th-century oil, found in Le Perche and signed R. Gilbert, a heap of pears and grapes with a green jug and a dark bottle behind. Painters set their fruit against a near-black ground so the colors would seem to glow, a habit the French took from the old Dutch masters and never gave up. Sylvie leans it on a shelf where the low evening light finds the green of the jug and the last of the grapes.

Notes from Sylvie:

Dear collector, these pieces have been used for many years and may show light wear consistent with their age. An eye hook on the back allows for hanging. There is a slight tear in the canvas near the handle of the pitcher, along with a small hole near the bottom center of the canvas.
