Antique One-Of-A-Kind Collector's Item

For most of its history a mirror this size was a small fortune, a single sheet of glass that had to be cast and silvered by hand for only the grandest rooms. Found in Le Perche, it is a tall rectangular mirror in a gilded frame carved with flowers and leaves, calm and symmetrical in the neoclassical Louis XVI taste that followed the swirls of rococo. The soft, silvery spotting across the glass is the original silvering breaking down with age, the sign of a plate that has never been replaced. Sylvie leans it over a fireplace, monumental enough to hold the whole wall above the mantel.

Dear collector, this piece has lived a long life and may show light scratches, darkened spotting, and the occasional chip or crack, with glass that may have been replaced along the way. The wood frame and backing show some chipping from years of use, with areas of discoloration on both the frame and glass.
