Antique One-Of-A-Kind Jaw Dropper Sylvie Favorite

In an old French épicerie the goods were half the display, the coffee and the sugar kept behind glass where a customer could see them and point. Found in Le Perche and dating to the early 20th century, it rises tall in two parts, sliding glass doors and open shelves above a run of slant-fronted glass bins, three drawers, and sliding cupboards below. This one came out of a working grocer's store, built to hold and show a whole shop's stock at once, the slanted bins tilting the goods toward the glass. Sylvie fills it in a kitchen or pantry, the bins for coffee and flour behind their glass and the shelves above stacked with everyday china.

Notes from Sylvie:

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The piece has been sanded back to raw wood, with some original finish left on the handles and small details. The handles are slightly loose in places, while the glass doors, lower drawers, and glass-front compartments open comfortably. The unit is made in two parts with removable wood shelves and glass in good condition. The upper unit has a thin plywood back, while the lower unit has an MDF back and a warped particle board bottom shelf. The bottom shelf has some tear out at the back of the shelf. The top section is 13.25" deep.
